hi!
i'm gene, self-proclaimed "jack-of-all-trades", attempted fun-haver, and professionally, mostly-autodidact AI engineer
most of what i've learned comes from the internet, hands-on projects, and a ton of trial and error. i'm a firm believer in the power of self-directed learning, the importance of building things that matter by "making do with what you have", and making knowledge and tools accessible to anyone.
a brief update: this site is currently under renovation. in the meantime, got a little reading for you here:

march 20th, 2025
killing lag for real-time streaming, one headache at a time. a stroll through corrupted frame buffers, custom ffmpeg builds, and hardware acceleration on rockchip SBCs.
some projects:
briend
find the post on the tip of yr tongue
ai semantic search tool for ultra-specific bookmarked social media posts (mostly x) from natural language requests. update: gutted and rebuilt as "untitled-project-1". you can find it below. it works much better, and now supports image search! instructions may be out of date. fight me
multi-swarm
inference platform
students at mvs can host and request inference from each other, or donate compute to the swarm. open only to students, now mostly defunct
biohacking
culture yr own bacteria!
buy some lab stuff. it's fun, and not at all dangerous, mostly. use the stuff to culture then analyze bacteria. a little nudge to get you started in your own bedroom
